The Severe Weather Assistance Team (SWAT) Group is a non-profit organization incorporated under the Societies Act within the Province of Nova Scotia.
As such, we rely on volunteers to give us the muscle needed to carry out our mandate - namely, to provide safe and timely transportation of essential personnel for selected agencies, groups and organizations.
Typically SWAT gets the nod when the region is hit with a severe weather event during the winter. Our unique training and equipment allows us to safely move people and equipment through the worst weather.
The SWAT Group operates year round and is available and able to assist during any state of emergency, as well as with ground search and rescue operations.
When SWAT goes out:
Where The SWAT Group goes:
The general confines of the Halifax Regional Municipality govern the scope of The SWAT Group's activities. Some events may require team members travel outside the HRM area, while other, very severe weather events may require we limit our scope of operations to a small, more centralized area within Metro Haliax.
Basically, if the weather makes you want to roll over, call in sick and stay at home for the day, we'll be out transporting essential services personnel to where they are needed around HRM.
What The SWAT Group is NOT:
If you would like to donate to our group to help defray costs (we spend a lot on fuel), please contact us through this board. Our volunteers CANNOT accept money while providing this service as it will void their insurance policies...as we said above, we are not a taxi service.
The best way to reach us is to simply click on my name, and select the option to send me a Private Message - this is simlar to e-mail and will reach me quickly.
Thank you for taking the time to read about our Group.

When SWAT goes out:
- If the forecast calls for severe weather, such as blizzard conditions, we'll be out
- If the local authorities are advising motorists to stay off the roads, we're mobile
- If the local transit authority pulls the public transit busses off the road, we go out
- If the terrain involved requires off-highway travel, we're available, year round

What The SWAT Group is NOT:
- A Club - we are a registered non-profit organization set up to help the community
- A Taxi Service - you cannot "book" us and we do not directly serve the general public or private businesses
